About Julie

I'm the author of An Island Long Ago, an award-winning historical novel that explores themes of entitlement, romance, and betrayal across multiple generations of a Filipino family. Set against the rich and turbulent backdrop of the Philippine Islands during times of war and political unrest, the story centers around a mystical heirloom comb passed from mother to daughter—interweaving personal transformation with national history through four generations.

The novel has received recognition in several literary competitions, including the Gold Medal for Adult Historical Fiction at the 2024 Florida Authors and Publishers Association (FAPA) President’s Book Awards. It was also named a Finalist in the 2024 American Legacy Book Awards and in the Hemingway Book Awards for Wartime Fiction, a division of the Chanticleer International Book Awards.

My storytelling is deeply influenced by my heritage. I was inspired by the vivid personal stories shared by my mother and grandmother—strong Filipino women who experienced the events of the 20th century firsthand. Their voices live on in my characters, whose journeys blend emotional intimacy with sweeping historical drama.

I’m passionate about stories that blend historical resonance with personal transformation, and I believe An Island Long Ago is well-suited for screen adaptation. I’m currently exploring opportunities to collaborate with producers, screenwriters, or creative teams interested in bringing this story to life for film, television, or streaming audiences.
