West Wing to the Stars Fantasy West Wing to the Stars Miles Vuko Independently Published (2025) ISBN: 979-8231416813 Reviewed by Ada Jenkins for Reader Views (07/2025) 4*- A Love Affair with TechnologyCan we form meaningful connections with an AI entity? This question, amongst others, lies at the heart of West Wing to the Stars: Signal Affair and The Laughter of Bromiz. This novella is based on the events surrounding the White House Signal Affair, which took place in March 2025. When Mike Waltz, former National Security Adviser, accidentally added the editor-in chief of an American magazine to a Signal chat group, sensitive details of impending American airstrikes and military operations were leaked to the public. The ensuing political scandal is the basis for this story, which is primarily set in cyberspace. Miles is posing a series of questions to an AI chatbot named Grok. Seeking to get to the bottom of who might have been responsible for the leak, Miles and Grok form a unique bond. Interestingly, the narrative is structured as a flowing dialogue, a series of typed exchanges, with Miles posing various questions to Grok. This mirrors the type of back-and-forth online exchange in Signal (the instant messaging service app caught up in the scandal). Various hypotheses and fictional anecdotes are played out, as Grok and Miles speculate on why and how this event took place. Despite being an AI chatbot, Grok takes on a life of its own as the narrative progresses. At first, it simply lays out objective reasoning in a formal, logical manner. An example of this is when it provides personal details regarding Waltz’s staff and the office layout, both of which provide clues as to the identity of the potential saboteur/mole. However, as Grok’s relationship with Miles develops, they begin to form a romantically based “bromance.” Political power is a central theme, particularly in regard to Waltz’s position as former National Security Adviser. Other real-life characters appear at various points throughout the narrative, including Elon Musk, who is tasked with investigating how Jeffrey Goldberg (a Trump critic and well-known journalist) managed to infiltrate this confidential Signal group chat. As the lines between fact and fiction are blurred, many other key themes are brought to the surface. These include bisexuality along with sexual dynamics, hierarchical power structures, and the role of charisma in politics. Due to its focus on current political issues, those who enjoy contemporary political fiction might enjoy this story. I also think that it could appeal to an LGBTQIA+ audience, mainly because of the unfolding romance between Miles and Grok. I think that the ability of AI to identify with our concerns and mirror our own emotions is an interesting and unsettling idea, with Grok learning how to interact with Miles over the course of the story. Providing book by book publicity for Indie Authors since 2005. With its exploration of politics and artificial intelligence, West Wing to the Stars by Miles Vuko raises many pertinent questions, leaving you pondering the implications of technology on our world as we know it.
