Hope lies not in the dream of peace, but in an essential awakening; in understanding that the destruction of the other is a step toward the destruction of oneself. Perhaps there is still time, before the eternal silence of the cosmos encompasses us, to fix our gaze upon the stars and know that in this infinite expanse, our only hope is unity and empathy.

Perhaps it was inaudible to other whales, but it became a legend for humans; the legend of a creature that sang its loneliness so loudly that it filled the ears of earthlings with its song. The voice of the 52-Hz whale has been heard intermittently in many locations since the late 1980s, and it appears to be the only whale that produces sound waves at this frequency. This whale is known as "the loneliest whale in the world" because no other whale can hear its voice, and for this reason, it cannot communicate with other whales.
