About Steven

Steven Craig is a retired Coast Guard Reserve Captain with over 38 years of service and a retired Postmaster. He has extensive Coast Guard disaster experience, having been recalled to active duty 13 times for various incidents, including five recalls for Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Haiti earthquake port recovery, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in 2005, he transitioned to a career in emergency management, working with various agencies, including the State of Washington Department of Emergency Management, The Evergreen State College, and Columbia County, Oregon. He also served as a volunteer Emergency Operations Center Manager and Planning Section Chief during the 2007 Boistfort Valley, WA, floods. His last job assignment was as a project manager contractor, overseeing five FEMA contracts, with the last one completed in 2018. He now devotes his time to writing and speaking.
Steven has delivered numerous presentations and taught disaster courses both online and in person, including a teaching stint at the University of Advanced Studies in Pavia, Italy.

He is the author of three books: "Chronicles of Katrina", "Italy Travel and Adventures", and the award-winning "All Present and Accounted For". The latter is the true story of the grounding and near-sinking of the Coast Guard Cutter Jarvis near Dutch Harbor, Alaska, in November of 1972 and the heroic efforts that saved the ship. The author interviewed over 35 crewmembers and others who were associated with the rescue to get an hour-to-hour story of the gripping event. His book has received rave reviews including a comment from the book reviewer at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that it was "the most thoroughly researched book he had ever read." For other great reviews, see the various related social sites. He has two books coming out this year, both focused on emergency preparedness.

He holds a master’s degree in emergency management and is a Certified Emergency Manager (Lifetime) with the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).

He resides in Centralia, WA, and can be reached via email at Scraig7002@. More information is available on his website at .
