Think: Cast Away meets Six Days, Seven Nights
SYNOPSIS:
Patrick loves his high-paying job, the life it affords, and Jessica, his open- relationship partner. One evening, Patrick’s parents hit him with “settle down or regret it.” This means having a unique experience and proposing. Patrick is almost 40, it’s now or never. Jessica seems to think the same and has booked a trip to Tahiti and the surrounding islands. At work, Patrick sets his staff on a project and says he’s off to Upstate NY, but goes to Tahiti.
Patrick keeps to his proposal plan even after meeting a charming ex-Air Force pilot, Christina, who has hidden pains. Jessica meets and flirts with David, another pilot. She then rejects Patrick’s proposal, says their relationship is perfect. Patrick says she wants to romance David, so Jessica accuses him of trying to get with Christina. Patrick is hit with a work message for an e-meeting. With no suit or backdrop to fake Upstate NY, Patrick enlists Christina to fly him to a big hotel. But a storm strands them on an island.
They blame each other for the crash but soon team up and head to a what should be a weather beacon on a vista. They bond via hometown stories but all goodwill fades when there is no beacon and Patrick eats their whole dinner. Patrick accuses Christina of being aimless in life unlike him. She says she lost her parents in an accident and then her Air Force career in a crew-killing crash. Tahiti is her exile from grief. And then... pirates capture them!
At the big hotel, Jessica calls Patrick’s parents, tells them he’s missing, so they head to Tahiti. Jessica sleeps with David before they arrive and then says she accepted Patrick’s proposal.
The pirates offer Patrick and Christina the Prisoner’s Dilemma as a new storm is rolling in. Patrick uses his business skills to woo the pirates with prospects supplies, as Christina creates a diversion. They dash off in a jungle chase, leap from a waterfall, capture a pursuing pirate, and hide in a cave. Patrick shares that Jessica rejected his proposal but he’s still hopeful. Christina says she was set to fly with Air Force One before her crash and it’s her 39th birthday tomorrow. The next morning, they spare the captured pirate and dash back to fix Christina’s plane. As the pirates close in, the spared pirate foils his mates’ plans allowing Christina and Patrick to fly off, albeit in a shot up plane.
With Patrick’s support, Christina manages an emergency landing, but now she’s alone unlike Patrick who has a family and fiancée. Patrick’s father says he’s had a unique experience so Patrick invites Christina to a thank-you lunch much to Jessica’s chagrin. He calls into work and learns his staff told their boss that he went to propose, thus excusing his absence.
David shows up to congratulate Christina on her flying. His appearance unnerves Jessica. Patrick sees between the lines and reflects on his wild ride with Christina, but she excuses herself to go to sulk at a bar. Patrick calls out Jessica’s dishonesty and joins Christina for her happy birthday drink and passionate kiss.
