IT`S ALWAYS THE MANGOES
By Vanessa Sax

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A journalist’s big break spirals into chaos when legendary actress Vivian DeWitt hits her head and starts transforming into the outrageous characters from her past films, forcing Jess to navigate a wannabe influencer, eccentric performances, and one unforgettable adventure.

SYNOPSIS:

In "It’s Always the Mangoes," ambitious journalist Jess lands an exclusive interview with reclusive Hollywood legend Vivian DeWitt. But when Vivian accidentally gets hit in the head by a tin can while reenacting one of her iconic movie scenes, she starts transforming into eccentric characters from her past roles, throwing the interview—and Jess’s sanity—into total chaos.

First, Vivian transforms into Detective Vance, determined to track down a 'diamond smuggler' in the middle of a bustling market, only to accuse a fruit vendor of hiding diamonds in his mangoes. (Wannabe) influencer grandson CHARLIE is filming the whole fiasco like it’s his next viral hit, while Jess tries desperately to pull Vivian out of her delusion. After a ridiculous baguette fight (Charlie’s idea of helping), Jess is losing patience as Vivian suddenly transforms into the Queen, steals a sports car, and races off with Jess and Charlie scrambling behind, utterly baffled.

Things go from bad to worse when Vivian turns into a jazz-playing nun (no one knows where she got that outfit from) and gives a not-so-historically-accurate tour at a monastery. Jess reluctantly joins in, doing her best to manage Vivian’s antics as they continue the tour. Suddenly, a wedding ceremony interrupts their tour, and Vivian barrels down the aisle, convinced the groom is her one true love from her movie “The Last Dance of Paris”. As Jess tries to pull her away, Charlie (helpful as ever) films the entire scene, capturing every absurd moment.

In a last-ditch effort to snap Vivian back to reality, Jess drags her to the hospital, but Vivian transforms into Dr. Victoria Steele, a tough-as-nails surgeon. One imaginary surgery and a rather unconventional doctor’s appointment later, the doctor suggests Vivian needs to reenact the final scene from one of her movies to find closure and snap back to reality. Desperate, Jess reluctantly agrees to Charlie’s plan to steal, or in Charlie’s words to “borrow,” a painting from a private collection. After nearly getting caught, Jess discovers the mansion is actually Charlie’s dad’s house, and Vivian is still very much in character. They realize the movie ends with Vivian’s character escaping to a private island. Short on islands, Charlie suggests a tiki bar instead.

At the tiki bar, Vivian confronts the same fruit vendor in a dramatic showdown, finally snapping back to reality after a door slams into her face. The wild day helps Vivian reconnect with her fearless self and land a new acting role. Jess turns her chaotic day into a hit article, “It’s Always the Mangoes,” launching her career, while Charlie enjoys his newfound online fame from posting the videos of Vivian’s antics. In the end, Vivian asks Jess to write her autobiography.
