BLESSED

BLESSED
By Jim Cushinery

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

After being “cancelled” by his progressive Atlanta megachurch for his polyfidelitous family and outspoken theology, Pastor Rene Chisholm takes over a struggling, ultra-conservative Baptist congregation in rural Utah — a town packed with closeted “others” who fear exactly the kind of people God keeps sending them.

SYNOPSIS:

When Pastor Rene Chisholm, a progressive Black Baptist minister in Atlanta, is fired for preaching LGBTQ+ inclusion—and for living openly in a poly-fidelitous family structure—his only job offer is in Ivory Falls, Utah, a desert town full of polite repression and closeted contradictions. Rene arrives determined to fix the town, only to discover that Ivory Falls is the unlikely community that ends up transforming him.

BLESSED is a half-hour comedy about culture clash, spiritual upheaval, messy families, and the absurd ways people change when the truth becomes harder to hide. It’s warm, fearless, and deeply character-driven—where every sermon triggers a misunderstanding, every potluck exposes a secret, and every resident is hiding something behind a smile
