OPERATION SPIDERWEB
By Aleksandr Rozhnov

GENRE: War, Thriller
LOGLINE:

In the midst of war, four operatives from the Security Service of Ukraine — an analyst, a technician, a hacker, and a master of disguise join forces to achieve the impossible: assemble strike drones deep inside enemy territory and deliver a devastating blow to Russia’s strategic aviation.

SYNOPSIS:

This story is inspired by real events that took place during the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, some names and events have been fictionalized for safety reasons and to enhance dramatic effect. The series takes place in the year 2025, as the Security Service of Ukraine launches a high-risk operation codenamed “Spider web”, initially conceived back in November 2023. The mission: to eliminate a significant portion of Russia’s strategic aviation directly on its own territory. At the heart of the operation are four completely different individuals. Andriy Pereviz is a major and an analyst with sharp intellect and a dry sense of humor. Serhiy Vasyuta is a lieutenant colonel, a technical genius with deep knowledge of smuggling logistics and a well-known admirer of women. Oleksandr Vyshnevskyi, also a lieutenant colonel, is a master of disguise who frequently works undercover. He is an opera enthusiast who always listens to classical music after a successful mission. Vadym is a young hacker caught for a cybercrime. Given the choice between prison and collaboration with the SSU, he chooses the latter.

The core idea of the operation involves assembling combat drones on the territory of the aggressor state and deploying them as close as possible to strategic targets. To conceal the drone systems, the team sets up a cover business in a Russian city: a modular housing production facility. Each house is secretly fitted with a drone launch mechanism hidden under its roof. These units are designed to be loaded onto trucks and transported near military airfields.

Meanwhile, Vadym develops advanced software using artificial intelligence, enabling the drones to identify and strike targets without operator guidance. The AI is trained using reference photos of old aircraft found in Ukrainian museums.

The entire operation unfolds near a Federal Security Service office, putting constant pressure on the team. Parallel to this, the story introduces a Russian colonel named Heorhiy Vasyuta a suspicious and obsessive officer who believes Russia’s airbases are under protected. He bears a deep hatred toward Ukrainians, as his grandfather was killed by UPA fighters. As tension rises, the team faces the looming risk of exposure.

The climax unfolds when drones launch from the roofs of modular houses mounted on trucks positioned near Russian military sites. The team, already onboard a plane headed to Europe, monitors the operation remotely.

The mission is a resounding success. Nearly forty strategic aircraft, including the rare A-50, are destroyed. But the true victory lies in the team's loyalty, ingenuity, and unbreakable belief in freedom. Operation Spiderweb becomes possible only through the flawless cooperation of people who started as strangers and ended as a single force.
