KILL OF DUTY

KILL OF DUTY
By Aleksandr Rozhnov

GENRE: Thriller / Suspense, Drama
LOGLINE:

A traumatized Iraq War veteran becomes a Call of Duty champion and believes war is only for women now. But when his girlfriend repeatedly beats him in the game, he challenges her to a real fight—with deadly consequences.

SYNOPSIS:

Jimmy is a 25-year-old veteran who served two years in Iraq. After returning home, he suffers from PTSD—haunted by combat, fallen brothers, and constant frontline pressure. Civilian life feels fake, and his only emotional outlet is the video game Call of Duty, where he can still be a soldier. In the game, he leads, commands, and earns respect. For Jimmy, war is a man’s world: women belong at home, not on the battlefield.

At a gaming expo, he meets Susan—sweet, smart, and curious about gaming. They start dating, and she moves in. Fascinated by Jimmy’s skill, she joins his team and plays to prove that women can thrive in male-dominated games like Call of Duty. John, another teammate, respects Susan and openly admires her abilities—fueling Jimmy’s growing jealousy and insecurity.

To Jimmy’s surprise, Susan is a far better player than he expected. She beats him—again and again. At first, he brushes it off, but each defeat eats at his pride. His worldview starts to crumble: how can a woman outmatch a war-hardened soldier? His frustration turns into resentment. Arguments erupt. Susan becomes, in his eyes, not a partner, but a threat.

Jimmy owns illegal weapons. One day, he takes Susan outside, gives her a gun, and says it’s time to “play for real.” In his mind, this is the final level—a true combat mission. No longer seeing her as his girlfriend, he views her as the enemy.

A real hunt begins.

In the end, Jimmy kills Susan. And in that moment, he feels relief—convinced he restored the "natural order," where men dominate and women can’t win a real war. Arrested and deemed mentally fit, he’s sentenced to prison. He tries pleading insanity to be moved to a psychiatric hospital, but fellow inmates warn him: better to stay in prison than end up there.

And so he remains—stuck in his final level, where no one can rewrite the rules.
