CHRIS IN THE LEAD ROLE

CHRIS IN THE LEAD ROLE
By Aleksandr Rozhnov

GENRE: Thriller, Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a timid young man is caught in a staged terrorist attack on a yacht, he must navigate a dangerous game to prove to himself and his father that he can become a real man.

SYNOPSIS:

Chris is an eighteen-year-old young man from London who grew up in a wealthy family. His father is a strict millionaire and the owner of a large real estate company, while his mother is a kind but overly caring housewife. Since childhood, Chris has been very tall but extremely soft and timid. He avoids conflict, is afraid to argue with others, and doesn’t know how to stand up for himself.

His father, disappointed by his son's character, dreamed of naming him James after James Bond, but his mother insisted on naming him Chris in honor of Christ. His father knows that one day Chris will inherit the family business but realizes that in his current state, he won’t be able to run it. Even sending Chris to boxing didn’t help — the boy simply couldn’t bring himself to hit people.

Looking for a radical solution, the father meets Jason Statham — an actor famous for playing tough, decisive men. Besides his movie career, Jason runs a stunt company that specializes in complex and dangerous staged scenes. The father hires Jason to create an extreme trial that will force Chris to change.

The father organizes a family yacht trip with their friends. During the trip, "terrorists" — Jason Statham and his team — attack the yacht and take everyone hostage, demanding a ransom. Chris’s mother, who knows nothing about the staged plan, starts to panic, and the situation begins to spiral out of control.

According to the plan, Jason Statham is supposed to save everyone, but during the "shootout," he is supposedly seriously wounded. He pretends he can no longer act and tells Chris he is now their only hope. In a secret conversation, Jason gives Chris a step-by-step plan: start by asking to go to the bathroom, where he’ll have a chance to take out one of the terrorists.

Chris is terrified but decides to act. He manages to knock out the first terrorist in the bathroom, push the second one overboard, and tries to drop a barrel of ice on the third but misses, which sparks a chase. Eventually, Chris knocks the third terrorist out by dropping a decorative statue on him.

A tourist plane flies over the yacht, and passengers notice armed people onboard. They alert the coast guard, which dispatches patrols. The father has to sneak onto the yacht and explain the situation to avoid a real police operation.

Chris’s mother, who was unaware of the setup, demands to stop the whole act immediately. The father locks her in a cabin to keep the plan from falling apart. The final showdown takes place in the yacht’s main hall: Chris faces the "lead terrorist" and is forced to fight. Although the terrorist lets Chris win, Chris bravely pushes through his fear and continues to fight.

Suddenly, the mother bursts out of the cabin, grabs a spear from a decorative statue, and strikes the terrorist, bringing the fight to an unexpected end.

Back in London, Chris feels strong and confident. His father meets with Jason Statham, who admits that this was one of the toughest jobs his team ever faced: despite being a staged scenario, the stuntmen constantly risked their lives to make the experience as real as possible. They played along to the very end, even when it crossed the line of safety.

When the father once again tries to control Chris’s life, Chris calmly but firmly says that from now on, he’ll do what he believes is right, when he wants, and if his father doesn’t like it — they’ll have a serious talk.

Final scene: Chris spots Jason Statham in the city, harshly talking to a group of strangers. A fight breaks out — Jason quickly defeats them all within minutes. He notices Chris, smiles, and walks away. Chris, surprised and inspired, realizes that not everything in life is just a game.

P.S. I would really love for Guy Ritchie to see and bring this idea to life.
