A millennia after the world was ravaged by zombies, various interest groups have taken steps to prevent the return of the Walking Dead--including threats to ban the latest craze: cybernetic enhancements. A decision that hits home for our young competitive gamer, Bob, and his best friend and teammate, Kayla, a girl from school who possesses a cybernetic heart.
SYNOPSIS:
Ransomware is a 90s-themed, neon-colored, dystopian, social satire and sci-fi series (Robocop/Starship Troopers) meets teenage power fantasy (Dragon Ball Z)
Ransomware draws inspiration from Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984, and follows a mystery-driven structure reminiscent of Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Religious Zealotry, Megacities, Cybernetics, Corporate Controlled News, Genetic Modification, Extreme Death Sports, Violent Pokémon-like dogfighting, and MORE are featured in the story of Ransomware.
Set after a zombie apocalypse has come and gone, the fear of their return has led to the formation of a theocratic society hell-bent on keeping all forms of Zombification at bay. These religious extremists, known as Zylotions, consider Cyborgs to be Zombies, and those with Cybernetic Enhancements are mere weeks away from possibly being labeled the same; a sin punishable by death or exile.
Bob, a young gamer born into the royal Zylotion bloodline, was raised apart from his people's extremist beliefs. He accepts technology but firmly opposes cyborgs, seeing the act of bringing the dead back as morally wrong. Bob's main goal is to protect Kayla and escape Zylotion oppression by fleeing to Canada, where he hopes they can live free from theocratic control.
Kayla, born into a broken body, in a broken world with a broken family, seeks escape from Zylotion oppression. After meeting Bob, who loves her despite her cybernetic heart, Kayla's main goal becomes survival. She wants freedom from her circumstances above all, even if it means abusing Bob's trust.
An accidental public show of affection leads to Bob and Kayla being forcibly separated.
We catch up with Bob fifteen years later, recently resurrected as a cyborg against his religious beliefs, with no memories after his last day of high school. Driven by the need to reconcile his identity and avenge his murdered parents, Bob sets out to find their killers while confronting his new reality.
After being sold into slavery to a pirate faction called the OutKasts, Kayla fights her way up the ranks to become their Queen. Her goal is to survive and thrive in this hostile world. She once loved Bob and his family, and agrees to help him find out the truth about their murder. However, as soon as they do, Kayla promises to kill Bob, seeing him as nothing but a cheap imitation of the man she once loved.
Our protagonists enlist rivals, friends, and enemies alike to navigate a world shaped by unchecked technological advancement. Working together to uncover the truth behind Bob's parents' murder, they must survive challenges posed by powerful corporations, corrupt monarchs, cybernetic gangs, and a self-proclaimed deity capable of destroying the world instantly
