About Denise

I am an author of children's books, non-fiction, journalistic pieces, and currently working on two new books, one for young adults and one non-fiction.
I have also written multiple feature screenplays of various genres including faith based, drama, family/coming of age, docudramas, romcom, and horror/paranormal. I have been a member of the Writer's Guild of America since 2017.
I've written and produced two documentary films. The first being "Tony's Tale, Tragedy in Arizona" 2014 (based on my book of the same title) about the wrongful killing of Pit Bulls based on breed discrimination and how it led to tragic consequences for one Arizona Family. The second documentary entitled "Growing Up With Hollywood" 2016 is a historic look at Hollywood's child star era from the early silent films until the inception of television. This doc features the late, great Tony Dow and Baby Peggy.
Both docs have won multiple awards on the festival circuit and have been televised.
Other work includes selling a screenplay titled "Keeping Christmas" to Hallmark, (yet to be produced).
A feature screenplay titled "The Ride" co-written with my husband Joe Costa and produced summer 2021 by Two Tree Films in association with Spotlight Feature Films. The movie features Dean Cain, D.B. Sweeney, and was Paul Sorvino's last film. The film will have its Los Angeles premiere October 2022.
A faith based feature screenplay also co-written with my husband titled "Beyond the Hidden Veil of Shame" was produced this summer 2022 by JC Films and also features Dean Cain. Premiere date is yet to be announced.
A feature length docudrama screenplay titled "Long Time Coming" co-written with award winning, long time screenplay writer and producer John Wilder. The film addresses the birth of the civil rights movement in Florida and the squelching of the Klan's stronghold of it in 1951. (currently being marketed)
In addition to writing, my other passions include being a staunch advocate for animals and animal rescues and a humanitarian supporting charities dedicated to feeding hungry people and working for equal rights for all people worldwide.
