A historic biographical series about the hero/villain Margaret Catchpole - a young lady from Suffolk in the late 1700's who gets involved with smugglers, is imprisoned and sentenced to death but breaks out of gaol and goes on the run. Similar perhaps to 'Poledark' - but more political.
SYNOPSIS:
The 6 part historical biography of MARGARET CATCHPOLE - a lady who was involved with smugglers in the late 1700's, sentenced to death, escapes - then caught and exiled to Australia. (I happen to live in the same town she did, where many of the locations and buildings still exist, including little-known smuggling passages that are still around too!) Ultimately poor Margaret is a pawn caught between smugglers and her nemesis - a notorious Customs officer called 'Robert Bliss' and considered the most hated man in Norfolk, who ultimately is attacked by a mob and left with brain-damage.
