Hello there community. Below my bio as I currently use for getting in touch with filmmakers that have some more interest in my 'carreer' than what I have on my web profiles. I have one feature film project in development for which we are now in the process of casting a lead. Next to that I am also working as a producer director and writer on corporate film productions. I am on here to network and help others out if needed.
Willem Elzenga – Film Director
Willem Elzenga, a visionary filmmaker, began his artistic journey in the north of the Netherlands, where he developed a passion for drawing and music from an early age. His creative spark led him to collaborate with his music teacher, producing recordings in churches and radio plays for his friends at field hockey. A quiet yet inventive child, Willem excelled academically, attending Atheneum before pursuing studies in Law and Artificial Intelligence in Amsterdam.
Despite his academic success, Willem remained deeply committed to the arts, continuing to paint, draw, and create music. His artistic pursuits eventually led him to the prestigious Netherlands Film Academy in Amsterdam. There, he met now a former Universal Film executive who inspired him to pursue filmmaking on a grand scale. Together, they produced a film featuring acclaimed actress Thekla Reuten and co-founded the Harmonicaat Art Foundation, a platform for emerging artists in theatre, dance, poetry, and entertainment.
At film school, Willem distinguished himself not only artistically but also in business. His thesis project received significant financial backing and was named the Best Student Film in the Netherlands in 2000. Taking bold risks, he cast two unknown actors who later became major figures in Dutch media. During this period, he also founded his first production company, pioneering digital entertainment research and development. Willem participated in CILECT workshops, learning from industry legends like BBC producer Mark Shivas, Nicolas Roeg’s producer of The Witches, and The Storyteller TV series. He also connected with Catherina D’Amico, a key player in the Italian and European film industry.
With his company Plinq, which was listed on the Swedish stock exchange, Willem directed and produced a wide range of films and games until 2005. He then transitioned into game distribution, working with major companies such as Microsoft, PlayStation, and Xbox. Later, he focused on screenwriting and artwork development, receiving a major bid from Sony in Los Angeles. He was also approached to direct high-profile Hollywood projects, including a Conan the Barbarian remake and a Terminator installment.
Choosing to return to Europe, Willem shifted his focus to music and photography before being invited to produce film content for the Dutch Parliament. There, he created a documentary and over 50 short films, offering insights into parliamentary operations.
Determined to continue his cinematic journey, Willem founded FireStarter Film Studio, dedicated to producing feature films and media projects. His plinq-film A House of Orange earned accolades in Berlin, and he collaborated with industry giants such as Jan de Bont (Speed, Minority Report), PJ Brugge (Heat), and sound designer Piero Mura (Dune, War of the Worlds).
With a career spanning film, gaming, and digital innovation, Willem Elzenga remains a trailblazer in the entertainment industry, continuously pushing creative boundaries across multiple disciplines.

Nice to meet you Willem Elzenga
What's your favorite project you've worked on?

Thanks for asking Stephen Folker. I spend a lot of time developing a project based upon a screenplay by Groundhog Day writer Danny Rubin through CAA. This for Revolution Studios and Lightstorm Entertainment. It was a comedy and had a lot of potential, because it was a great movie idea and really funny. It also had a small investment company attached for 50 million dollar. I am still amazed that this project wasn't realised. But you never know. It has the potential of a live-action Shrek movie-series.

Hi, Willem Elzenga. I hope you're doing great! Congratulations on all your accomplishments! I used to draw before I started writing short stories, scripts, etc, and I remember painting in art class. Do you still draw and paint?

Hey Maurice Vaughan no I am totally not on it anymore. But maybe in the future when I get older and retire. And you any plans to pick it up?

I don't have any plans to draw or paint again, Willem Elzenga, but like you said, maybe in the future. I used to mainly draw superheroes and cartoons, and we painted objects in art class. What did you draw and paint?
