Introduce Yourself : Script request etiquette by Tim Morell

Script request etiquette

Hey all, I'm a former screenwriter looking at re-entering the market after a rather lengthy hiatus. Back in the day I was a hot prospect for about five minutes when the first script I ever wrote got me a writing assignment and the second script I ever wrote ended up on the must-read list of all the major studios, which resulted in my being courted by many of the top talent agencies of the day. Unfortunately, I was never able to get that early buzz to translate into the career I wanted. Although I got an agent or writing assignment from every script I wrote in that period, I could never find an agent who would just send my stuff out, they always seemed to want me to write something else. The frustration finally got to me.

Now that I have more time on my hands, I decided to revisit my old scripts and see if I had any writing mojo left to tackle some of the ideas I wasn't able to crack in the past. Since I possess a pretty decent backlog of scripts that have all been vetted, at one level or another, by some version of the Hollywood system, I opted to do one of the consultations offered through this site. I had a very nice chat with a Literary Manager who agreed to look at a script that 20th Century Fox had been interested in at one time.

My question is, for those of you who have had scripts requested through this site, what have you found the usual turnaround time to be for a suitable follow-up? I'm not talking about having paid coverage done, but just someone saying, sure, I'll look at the script. I was thinking six weeks, someone affiliated with this site said three months, which seems a little long. Any thoughts, based on actual experience, would be appreciated. Thanks

Hey, Tim Morell. Great to meet you. Welcome to the community and welcome back to screenwriting. Here's a blog that'll help you navigate Stage 32 and connect with creatives and industry professionals: www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-successfully-navigate-the-stage-32-platform-...

Congratulations on the script request from the Literary Manager through Stage 32 and all your success! I've gotten script requests by networking with producers on here. The turnaround time is always different. Sometimes days (if it's a short script), weeks, and months. If it's a feature script, I'll wait 1 1/2 months-3 months before sending a follow-up message or email.
