Both my Parents passed away less than a week ago, and I have two pitches coming up in four days. How am I supposed to be 'on''? How am I supposed to be all smiles and charming, when all I want to do is cry? Should I preface my pitch saying my parents just died? Is that considered bad form? Please don't give me any condolences, I fall apart whenever I hear that.
Hi, Zee Risek. I've never had to pitch right after something like that, but I think prefacing your pitch saying your parents just died could help. That way, if you start crying, the people you're pitching to won't be confused about what's going on.
"How am I supposed to be all smiles and charming, when all I want to do is cry?" Maybe try to get yourself excited about the characters, stories, and why you wrote the script.

Perhaps you can submit a written pitch instead of a face-to-face one?

Thanks guys. Just finished a pitch, it went well, despite me being teary eyed throughout the whole thing. I did tell the person I was pitching to that my parents just died, I think that helped. I have one more pitch today, I'll do the same for that pitch, inform them of what happened.

You're welcome, Zee Risek. Glad the pitch went well! Congratulations! I hope the pitch you have today goes well too!

Glad it went well Zee - I know the pain and feelings when my Dad died back in ‘95.
Even at the day job, it was hard to keep composure at times … even driving - lol
A guy from our Film Dayton meeting gave a pitch deck presentation. He said most people don’t read Scripts (much) anymore. (I say there are some from all the emails I receive)!
It was like a lot of graphics, some text, graphics, and then more text, etc as he explained how this process works. I have a file if you’d like to see it.
I’m a musician / composer/ producer/ Artist guy, so learning zone has been quite high the past 2-3 years.
More later, Let me know if you’d lie to see the Pitch deck he presented with !
