The Slamdance Film Festival and Paying it Forward

RB has often spoken about paying it forward and this short video interview with Joe & Anthony Russo, highlights that if you are in a position now, in your career where you can pay it forward, then please do.

It also raises the profile of the festival itself. This is one I need to check out.

I have been trying to as I am going along. I was training a new writer for their feature. But one thing I insisted was they go out of their comfort zone and have more women and minorities in their debut. I am a minority and have been fighting this thinking of only one group of people as not realistic. If you imagine it, it can work, especially for selling to territories outside North America.

Paying it forward definitely the way to go. As an assistant director, I’ve been able to give productions assistants a start or background actors work that sometimes leads to joining SAG. It’s a good feeling. Now that I have my short film and screenplay, I’d stay positive perhaps someone will put out their hand for me too!

It's great to see Joe and Anthony Russo paying it forward, @Geoff Hall. There are so many people who've helped me over the years. I'm sure I didn't get to thank each and every one of them, but paying it forward is my way of saying thank you. And imagine how many projects would've never been made and released if it wasn't for people paying it forward. And how many jobs and opportunities that people would've never had.

Geoff Hall

Xochi Blymyer Hi Xochi, I wish I was able to help you, but I’m not at that place yet to ‘pay it forward’. What’s your screenplay about?

In the films I’ve produced, my biggest thrill was employing people. I just loved that feeling of being on set and seeing people I’d employed, thrive in their work.

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan you have a big heart, Maurice!

There are so many ways to blood from the stone in life. We are a part of a creative community. Paying it forward is the idea. Be a story teller and help others tell stories. Corner the soy bean market if that's your thing. Elevate others in the creative community is the idea. Love this, Geoff Hall - thank you!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Geoff Hall. You have a big heart too.

Sam Sokolow you are most welcome, Sam.

Geoff Hall - Here's my short pitch!! "Ross, a has been director finds new purpose when saddled with a movie in the Gambia. He learns there’s more to life than blockbuster movies while dealing with a challenging location, locals learning movie making and a Producer President who may not be all that he appears." It's been selected at film festivals and won a couple awards so that's fun! Thanks for asking!

Geoff Hall

You are welcome, Xochi Blymyer and Sam Sokolow
