Fire Up 611!

The Norfolk & Western Class J Locomotive is the most powerful passenger steam locomotive in the world and it resides in my home town of Roanoke Virginia. Not only that, it was BUILT here. I was asked to create a film to be used for raising funds to get the 611 back out on the tracks. I shot interviews and footage of the locomotive in its home at the Virginia Museum of Transportation and used archival footage and stills supplied by Norfolk Southern. The goal was to produce a short film that did not use the tired old "clickity clack...goin' down the railroad track" theme, but rather an upbeat homage to its heritage and future for younger generations. We succeeded! It was shot on a Panasonic GH2 with a Rokinon 24mm T/1.5 cine lens and edited in video post production with Final Cut Pro X.
