An old schoolmate hires unconventional wildcard private investigator Suzie McKlusky to find her brother, who has gone missing. Eager to take down corrupt county sheriff J.C. Connors Jr., whom she suspects is behind her client's brother's disappearance, and Suzie agrees to work for her and take down Connors's underground booze and drug-running business.
