Line of duty (tv series) | Darren Nash

This was supposed to be not only the last VFX shot of season 6, but the last LINE OF DUTY VFX shot ever, however it looks like LINE OF DUTY is going to be returning to our screens in the not too distant future. The lift here is based on an existing lift that could in theory have been filmed without VFX. The reasons that it ended up being a VFX shot was to avoid camera reflections, give us more control over the smooth camera motion and the fact that just opposite was a building site. I had to don a hard hat and go and take lots of reference images/videos of the lift going up and down so I could see how the cabling and counterweights worked. Those same images were then stitched together and included in the final comp. FUN FACT: The fake lift that they used on set had a large printed image of the city outside of the glass side, to make it look like they were looking out over the city.
