Meeting me where I'm at as a Producer

Sometimes, as producers, we forget the person on the other end of the email or call likely has already walked a long road. I’ve been producing films, documentaries, episodic content, and shorts for over 25 years. I don’t know it all, far from it, but I do know enough to recognize when a conversation slips into talking at rather than talking with. When producers talk to producers, let’s meet on equal footing. Ask before teaching. Assume competency first. Respect the journey, whether it came through film school, indie sets, or years of trial and error. Because this business is hard enough without leaving one another feeling talked down to. Mutual respect and collaboration take us further. When we start at the same point, we likely will be much further down the road and can gain ground instead of hashing over old lessons. #Filmmaking #IndependentFilm #FilmProducers #Storytelling #Collaboration #Respect #FilmIndustry
