I was a mounted police officer for Miami Dade County, Miami, Florida. I am currently President of Sumter County Mounted Reserve in Sumter, Florida. Mounted Police units are effective for public relations, crowd control, search and rescue, beach patrols, park patrols, street patrols, parking lot details and are cost effective. Civilian Mounted Units are another method for police departments to have civilians volunteer to help the department in a very positive way. It is sad that across the country police departments are disbanding their mounted units in favor of segways, motorcycles and atvs. The horse is part of American history and as technology grows there is still the need for the human and horse factor in law enforcement. This documentary hopes to be useful for police departments and communities that want to start or keep their mounted units.
