"glimpse" (short / silent / black, white, & color / 2012) | Jennifer Hooper

"Glimpse" (2012) is a silent, 5-minute short film created by and starring Jennifer Hooper for competition in the Mercyhurst College Silent Film Contest in Erie, Pennsylvania, and proudly features an original musical score by Connor McNelis (actor/musician, Pittsburgh, PA). "Glimpse" won the competition, and went on to show at the Erie [Pennsylvania] Filmmaker Showcase, as well as FILM at the Erie Art Museum (a weekly film series curated by local filmmaker John C. Lyons of Lyons Den Productions, LLC). Jennifer Hooper is an active participant in Northwest Pennsylvania film projects. "Glimpse" is a dramatic expose conceived by Jennifer Hooper to promote awareness of sex slavery and domestic violence. The story could be interpreted in several ways; however, Jennifer Hooper's primary conveyance is that of a dream sequence through the eyes of the abuser, illustrating his perverse and sinister subconscious fantasies. The final frame shot in color mimics the introductory black & white shot in order to suggest that these fantasies are about to actualize in real life. In its brief 5-minute duration, "Glimpse" reveals coping mechanisms involved in the aforementioned subjects of sex slavery and domestic violence, as well as the overwhelming desire for freedom, survival, and revenge.
