"shots seen around the world" | Matt Selou

Photography over a decade that captured some of my experiences, and my love for still photography. Many photos were never planned. There were times I didn't have my camera with me, times there was no charge. There was also the time my camera stopped working. I wasn't sure about using captions, as I wouldn't want to take anything away from the viewer's imagination, so I wrote the captions using my own dialect. There are times I also didn't want to break life's spontaneity with the interruption of a photograph. There are some people who never wanted their photos taken as well. As my friend Rachel once told me before we embarked on a photo binge in Thailand, "Here's to make everyone back home jealous." We laughed, but I think the ego plays a role in the photos we take, and the photos I've chosen. My criteria could change from week to week. Because I wanted the photos put in chronologically, a lot of excess money will be spent on printing an entire page with a small photo. The process has been tedious, but it brings back great memories, and things I haven't thought about. The places were important, but the people make the place. I would like to thank innocent bystanders who were kind enough to take a few pictures for me when I didn't want to use the automatic sometimes. A lot of things are time sensitive, like when I was in a moving vehicle for example. My idea of irony is having a photo book but not being able to use a photo I've taken for the front cover because of the low-quality resolution of my camera.
