Yes, the secondary characters of a story led me to tell their story, & then minor characters did the same. Cross pollination of genres/themes can happen too.
I thought of a spin-off, but veered into outlining a prequel to one of my sci-fi action scripts. That script is an ensemble with so many (awesome!) characters, but it's probably confusing. Billy Wilder posited, "if you have a problem with Act 3, the real problem with Act 1" but I'll one up him, I have a problem with one script, so the problem is with the previous script... that I still need to write. The story's essentials start earlier than I thought.
