Your first draft doesn’t have to be perfect.
It just has to exist.
You can fix weak dialogue, tighten scenes, improve pacing, and reshape characters during rewrites. But you can’t rewrite a blank page.
Keep writing. The messy draft is part of the process.

You're right, Branson Tiara. And I make a really detailed outline, but I don't figure out some things until I'm on the second draft, third, etc.

Absolutely. I’d go further, every ‘First Laydown’ (what some call first draft of the whole story/episode) is a ‘messy’ draft - the only difference is how messy - but they all need changed/fixed. If by some miracle they don’t need changed/fixed, guess what, they still will be changed/fixed because screenplays are a collaborative process.

Agree. When it comes to the screenplay which is uploaded as part of my profile, I rewrote the scenes about 10 times.

Absolutely true. The first draft is where the story begins, not where it has to be perfect. Sometimes getting the ideas, characters, and scenes onto the page is the hardest part, and the real refinement comes through rewriting.
As a scriptwriter and editor, I’ve found that a rough draft often reveals possibilities that aren’t visible when you’re still trying to make every line perfect. Progress creates something you can actually shape.
