Walking Tall — A Song From My Heart

I just finished writing a song that has completely moved me, and I wanted to share a little about it with this community. It’s called “Walking Tall.”

This song isn’t just music to me. It’s a piece of my heart, my life, and my values. It came through me fully formed — a duet with soaring male and female vocals, powerful 1970s soul energy, and lyrics that speak to dignity, resilience, unity, and standing up in the face of injustice.

The lyrics are about refusing to be held down, about walking tall with pride and courage, about honoring one another as sisters and brothers, and about the hope for a better, more loving world. Writing it brought me to tears. It’s one of those rare songs that feels bigger than you, that feels like it came through you rather than from you.

I don’t know how much this song will earn, but I do know that it leaves a permanent mark of love and intention for my son, Glenn. When he hears it, he will know exactly where my heart was — full of love, hope, and the belief in standing up for what’s right.

I wanted to share this with you because sometimes our work as songwriters isn’t just about hits, streams, or recognition. Sometimes it’s about capturing truth, spirit, and love in a way that can be felt for generations. Walking Tall is that song for me.

Thank you for letting me share it. If anyone has advice or insight on sharing music that carries this kind of personal and emotional weight, I’d love to hear it.

Maria Restivo Glassner, thank you so very much. I have written several songs against racism, but this one hits me the hardest.
