Producing : Making Movies is Hard by Michael Fitzer

Making Movies is Hard

We all know this: Making movies is hard! But if it were easy, it wouldn't be nearly as fun.

As a producer, filmmaking (at least the development end of things) can also be quite lonely, so it's nice to know that there are others out there experiencing some of the same things, asking some of the same questions, and dreaming the same dreams.

About a year ago, I ran across a podcast called "Making Movies is Hard," which is hosted by Liz Manashil and Alrik Bursell, people just like us... Indie pros, just trying to make it in an ever-changing industry, who are asking and answering the same questions so many of us have, while also knocking out some captivating interviews in the process.

So, as I work to get my next couple of features into production (or just funded for gods' sake), I find myself going back to this one more and more, searching for little nuggets of wisdom or just a reminder that, even if you were born to rich parents or just landed the lottery... Making movies is hard, but at least you're not alone.

You're right, Michael Fitzer. Making movies is hard! And lonely. I tried to make two feature films way back, and that's how it was for me. I did get producers/etc. on my team eventually. I didn't have a lot of resources back then (like the resources on Stage 32 and this podcast), which made it harder. I just followed Liz and Alrik's podcast. Thanks for sharing it. I don't plan on getting back into producing, but who knows. Hope you get your features into production and the funding!
