How To Work the American Film Market (AFM). Webinar with Alexia

Ever walked into a room full of buyers, sales agents, and financiers and had no idea where to start? You're not alone. AFM is one of the biggest opportunities in independent film — but showing up without a strategy is one of the fastest ways to leave with nothing but a badge and a stack of business cards you'll never use. That's why we're bringing in PGA producer and international sales veteran Alexia Melocchi, who has sold over 50 films and acquired 150+ titles (including La La Land and Now You See Me 2), to teach you exactly how the market really works — and how to work it for yourself.

In this webinar, you'll learn how to identify the right people to meet, prepare the materials you actually need, and tailor your approach whether you're chasing financing, sales representation, distribution, or co-production partners. You'll walk away with a practical strategy for before, during, and after AFM — plus a Prepping for AFM Timeline and Checklist you can start using right away.

James Lagrimas AFM seems like one of those markets where preparation matters more than simply showing up. Having hundreds of buyers, sales agents, financiers, and producers in one place doesn’t necessarily help if you haven’t identified who is actually relevant to your project.

I’m particularly interested in the idea of tailoring the approach depending on whether you’re looking for financing, sales representation, distribution, or co-production. Those are very different conversations, even when they involve the same project.

As a filmmaker working toward international opportunities, I think the most useful part would be understanding how to research the right companies and people before arriving at the market, rather than trying to figure everything out once you’re there.

I’d be curious to hear from filmmakers who have attended AFM: what did you wish you had prepared before your first market?
