As the film industry continues to evolve, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the creative process has sparked both excitement and concern. Staircase Studios AI, a startup launched in March 2025 by “Divergent” producer Pouya Shahbazian and venture capitalist Kenneth Lerer, aims to balance AI technology with human artistry in film production.
Their approach involves human artists at every stage: writers craft scripts, directors create storyboards, and actors perform characters while leveraging AI to enhance and expedite the filmmaking process. Their debut feature, “The Woman with Red Hair,” exemplifies this synergy, using AI for lifelike visuals while retaining human elements in dialogue and expressions. This development raises important questions for post-production professionals:
- How can we effectively integrate AI tools into our workflows without compromising the human touch that defines our craft?
- What ethical considerations should we keep in mind as AI becomes more prevalent in creative processes?
- How might AI impact job roles and opportunities within post-production?
Let’s discuss how we can navigate this evolving landscape, ensuring that technology serves as an ally rather than a replacement in our creative endeavors.

Hey Ashley Renee Smith , I find Ai tools to be helpful in Post Production especially. DaVinci Fusion's Magic Mask tool can save a lot of time with rotoscoping, and the Vocal Isolation feature can help get rid of a lot of background noise in your dialogue tracks. I think Ai has a place in reducing tedious tasks that no one enjoys doing. I don't see it replacing creativity.
I agree with William Joseph Hill. I personally allow AI to handle the daunting task no one wants to touch or that's overall time consuming. I just had a call with a potential client who is switching studios because the content they are receiving feels too AI so I would say AI isn't replacing the creative touch humans add.
