Chicken or the egg? We know you have to have both to have the other...but which came first?
Maybe the same is true of life and art.
How many times has a person's creation later become real? And how many real events have become creations?
I constantly say my life is a movie because I've had some pretty "interesting" things happen. For instance, did you know you can be accused of cat theft? I'll think twice the next time I try to help a "stray."
And yet, I'll still try to help.
So which comes first for you—life or art? Or have they become so intertwined you can't really tell anymore?
In my case they are intertwined and sometimes depend on timing. For example, right after graduating from high school, I saw a movie that had come out some years before, Ghost World, which was about two students who feel lost after graduating high school. It really resonated with me and then next year, when I was still unsure of where exactly I wanted to go in life, I saw Lost in Translation and it hit harder. Maybe it didn't imitated my life, but certainly provided an imitation. Imperfect, incorrigibly different, yet one I could not ignore.
