This is a business of Mavericks

Hello @stage32 fellow members. As I mentioned in my comment to @RBs great Coffee and Content post today (check it), this is a business about mavericks. As the old adage goes...learn the rules..then break 'em. Forge your way with the tools you have and learn. No permission required. (but don't be a dick is the only unbreakable rule.)

It's important to know the fundamentals, prepare your roadmap, build your knowledge base, execute your game plan. There has Never been a resource like @stage32 in cinema and tv history. The value here is phenomenal. Not only do you have the opportunity to learn, the connecting possibilities are impressive (the Writer's Room just blows one's mind the opportunities there...if you're a screenwriter and not in there...good luck...)

Oh, hi my name is Jack. I'm a producer, executive producer, line producer, dga upm and producer consultant. I produce and finance films and own a company called filmbudget.com.

You've made a very wise decision to be here. Take advantage of it. Learn, contribute. Be nice.

Good luck in filmmaking!

Thank you so much for this powerful post, Jack. Your words about forging our own path and respecting the fundamentals truly resonated with me. As an emerging screenwriter from outside the US, I'm currently developing a culturally rich, emotionally layered drama series titled Echoes of the Broken Heart. It's stories like yours that give us the confidence to keep going, learning, and creating. Grateful to be part of this incredible Stage32 community!

Hi Jack Binder, thanks so much for this post and for highlighting what makes this community so powerful. I really appreciate the reminder that it’s a maverick’s industry, equal parts structure and bold innovation. And I couldn’t agree more about the Writer’s Room. For screenwriters especially, the access to executives, education, feedback, and a supportive network is genuinely career-changing. For anyone curious, here’s the link for a free month to explore it: https://www.stage32.com/writers-room/plans-vip

Grateful to have you here sharing your expertise and insights, Jack!
