I'm Back — Did You Miss Me?

Hey Stage 32 community, some of you may remember me, Amry Lucy, story editor, screenwriter and script analyst. I took a little break but I'm back and ready to dive back into conversations, connections and great projects.

While I was away I picked up an interesting fact for you, did you know that the average Hollywood screenplay gets read for less than 90 seconds before a reader decides whether to keep going? That means your first ten pages are not just important they are everything.

If your opening pages are not doing their job I would love to talk about it. Drop a comment, say hello or share what you are working on. Always happy to connect with fellow creatives.

Welcome back, Amry! The opening pages definitely carry a lot of weight. In your experience as a story analyst, what’s the most common mistake that makes you lose confidence in a screenplay within those first few pages?

Amry Lucy

Zoltán Varga Thanks! The most common one starting with action before we care about anyone in it. Impressive on the surface but emotionally empty. Make me feel something about a person first and I'll follow you anywhere.
