Introduce Yourself : Hello from a First-Time Screenwriter by Jonathan Ruppert

Hello from a First-Time Screenwriter

Hi everyone,

My name is Jonathan Ruppert, and I’m excited to be here on Stage 32.

I’m a first-time screenwriter focused on political and techno-thrillers with strong commercial appeal. My current feature screenplay, HACKED, has been gaining momentum through screenplay competitions and festival recognition, which has been a very encouraging experience as I continue learning and building my path in the industry.

I joined Stage 32 to connect with other writers and industry professionals, learn from the community, and keep developing both my craft and my projects.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and being part of the conversation.

Pat Alexander

Hey @Jonathan great to meet you! What's your script Hacked about?

Jonathan Ruppert

Thanks, Pat — HACKED is a political techno-thriller about a disgraced Washington journalist who gets a tip from an old coding friend inside a covert government hacker unit and uncovers a plot to digitally empty the U.S. Treasury. From there it turns into a cat-and-mouse story involving a revoked federal investigator, a ruthless enforcer, and a much bigger cover-up behind the theft.

Amanda Toney

That's a hell of a cool story Jonathan. What's your protagonist like?

Jonathan Ruppert

Thanks, Amanda — James is a disgraced Washington journalist who’s smart, persistent, and a little haunted by a past article that damaged his credibility. He’s the kind of guy who still believes the truth matters, even after the system has pushed him to the sidelines. So when he gets a tip that could expose something enormous, it becomes both a dangerous investigation and a shot at redemption.

Sam Rivera

Hey Jonathan, welcome. First time screenwriter with a political techno thriller called HACKED that's already getting festival love? That's a strong start. What's the logline?

Jonathan Ruppert

Thanks, Sam — the logline is: When a disgraced Washington journalist gets a tip from an old coding friend inside a covert government hacker unit, he sees one last chance to redeem his name—until he and a revoked federal investigator are hunted by a ruthless enforcer and framed for a digital heist against the U.S. Treasury.
