Hello from Hungary! Math Teacher Turned Screenwriter

Hi everyone! I'm Kinga Györei, and I'm thrilled to join this amazing community! A little about me: I've been a high school math and physics teacher in Hungary for 27 years. For most of my career, colleagues and students kept asking why I didn't become an actress or comedian—apparently I have a knack for storytelling and making people laugh. But I was always too shy for the stage, so I found a different way to tell stories: screenwriting. I just found out my screenplay "IT Problem Fixed with Love" made Quarterfinalist in the Stage 32 + DramaBox Global Vertical Series Competition! It's a romantic comedy about a misogynistic CEO who's forced to hire a brilliant female IT specialist to save his company—and discovers she might be the one woman who can crack through his defenses (and his firewall :D ). I'm passionate about writing rom-coms and workplace dramas for vertical platforms. As someone who's spent decades explaining complex concepts to teenagers, I've learned that the best stories make people smile, think, and feel—all at the same time. I'm here to learn, connect, and hopefully find representation as I continue building my screenwriting career. If you're also into romantic comedies, vertical series, or if you're a fellow teacher-turned-creative, I'd love to connect! And huge congratulations to all my fellow Quarterfinalists! I can't wait to read about your projects and celebrate this achievement together. Here's to the next round! Looking forward to meeting you all and being part of this community! — Kinga

What drew you specifically to writing for vertical series, and what do you enjoy most about that format?

Szabina Györei

Honestly, it started with wanting to improve my English — both my listening and writing skills. As a hopeless romantic, I stumbled upon some vertical series episodes on social media, and I was instantly hooked. After watching a few, I thought — why not try it myself? I wanted to see if I had a natural talent for storytelling. What I love most about the format is the intimacy of it. The close-ups force actors to convey incredibly deep emotions, and as a writer, that's a beautiful challenge to write for.

Thank you so much for your help and the links you shared — I still feel like a complete beginner in this world, and every bit of guidance means a lot to me.
