Changing the World One Story at a Time

Hi everyone! I’m Alexys Rice, a rising screenwriter who loves character-driven stories centered around family, relationships, identity, and the complicated parts of life we don’t always talk about.

I recently became an Austin Film Festival Second Rounder for my short screenplay, The Humming Boy, which follows an autistic, nonverbal boy who learns to express himself through the sound of a piano. This is now expanding into a feature script. I also recently completed an ensemble TV drama pilot called The Afterglow. This story follows several interconnected people on very different journeys into parenthood, where the question isn't simply whether they'll become parents, but who they'll be when they get there. This pilot was submitted to the Blacklist’s Parenthood Writers Fellowship.

I’m also preparing to write my feature script called, The Wednesday Girl, a romantic comedy about two flawed strangers who meet at a speed-dating event and have a date that goes anything but perfectly—only to wake up and find themselves reliving the same Wednesday over and over again (think Shallow Hal meets Groundhog Day).

I’m on Stage 32 to connect with other writers and industry professionals, keep growing as a screenwriter, and hopefully get some of these stories off the page and onto the screen!

Welcome to Stage 32, Alexys! Congratulations on becoming an Austin Film Festival Second Rounder for The Humming Boy that’s a wonderful achievement. Your projects sound incredibly character-driven, especially the emotional premise of The Humming Boy and the unique time-loop concept in The Wednesday Girl. Wishing you continued success as you develop these stories and bring them closer to the screen!

Alexys Rice Congrats on the Austin Film Festival recognition! The Humming Boy sounds especially moving, and The Wednesday Girl caught my attention too. I love the idea of combining a romantic comedy with a time-loop premise. You’ve got a really interesting range of stories. Wishing you the best with the next stages!

Alexys Rice welcome to Stage 32!

My name is Ashley Smith, and I’m the Head of Community here at Stage 32. So glad you jumped into the Introduce Yourself Lounge!

Congratulations on Second Rounder at Austin. That’s a genuinely competitive field and it means real readers responded to the work.

Here’s where I’d point you:

Be consistently active in the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting). It’s free and it’s the most underestimated thing on this platform. Producers, executives, and working writers read it every day, and there are conversations running right now about structure and what makes a script land that you’d have something to add to. The Producing Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/producing) is worth your time too. Browse all of them here: https://www.stage32.com/lounge

Email our Success Team at Success@Stage32.com. Free, and worth doing now rather than later. Tell them about the Austin placement, the three projects, and where you’re hoping to go next. They’ll give you a realistic read on the pathway from here and which Stage 32 Executives are looking for material in your space.

Jump into Week 2 of our Creative Army Drive. It’s a month-long member event, and this week’s mission is simple: personally invite two friends or collaborators to join Stage 32, then comment on the post telling us about who you brought in. Every member who completes it gets a FREE Stage 32 Pitch Session, a live pitch to a working executive with written feedback. With a completed pilot and a festival placement behind you, that’s a conversation worth having. Closes Sunday: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/producing/Why-Your-Creative-Community-Is-...

Register for our next FREE Community Open House on Wednesday, September 23rd at 12pm PT. Great way to learn how to navigate everything here, ask questions live, and meet other members: https://www.stage32.com/education/products/stage-32s-september-2026-comm...

Welcome again, Alexys! Rooting for you and all three of these.

Alexys Rice Welcome - I just hope Ned Ryerson isn't in The Wednesday Girl. By the way, fun fact: Harold Ramis envisioned Phil Conners reliving that same day for 10,000 days until he became "enlightened." Let me know when you're finished. Sounds damnedfantabulous.
