I hope you’re all doing well.
I’d like to ask for your advice regarding a documentary project I’m currently developing.
I have completed the screenplay for a feature documentary focused on children and their resilience. Over the past months, I have also built some international connections around the project and produced a short proof-of-concept version to demonstrate its visual style and potential.
The biggest challenge I’m facing now is financing. As an independent filmmaker, I don’t have the budget to produce the feature.
I would truly appreciate any recommendations for documentary grants, funding organizations, co-production opportunities, investors, or production companies that support socially impactful documentary films.
Any guidance, advice, or personal experience would mean a great deal to me.

I submitted my film screenplay synopsis to an agency, and it passed the initial screening. They then sent me a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), which I signed and returned along with the full screenplay. I'm currently waiting for their response.

I have written 3 screenplays (two features and one pilot). One of the features could prove to be too expensive right now, but the other two screenplays can be filmed at a relatively low price. I have queried for representation (LA, NYC, Toronto and London), I have entered screenwriting contests, joined a writing group, and reached out to producers (have been able to connect with a few). It's a completely slow build to get traction. I believe in my work. What else should be doing?

Aaron Newman You’ve already done the important work. Maybe it’s time to produce one of your lower-budget screenplays yourself.
