This Private Equity, Debt, Bridge & Gap Financing class will help students understand the different types of financial instruments that exist within the independent film landscape. This class will elaborate on the various types of financing available, what differentiates them, and how they can all be utilized on a feature film project.
Each financial instrument has different parameters, pricing, and triggers for funding, which are all topics that will be covered throughout the course. A savvy financial producer must understand the different requirements from each type of financier in order to tailor the pitch of the film to raise financing. Whereas equity relies on the creative materials of the project, debt/bridge/gap are more concerned with the collateral (i.e., tax credits, distribution contracts, and sales estimates), budget, and finance plan to make a funding decision. Therefore, producers must understand which type of financing a financier provides and tailor his/her pitch accordingly in order to successfully raise financing for a film.
