Hi everyone,
I've been researching independent film distribution while building XineRent, and I've started wondering whether a premiere and distribution are actually two different problems.
A premiere seems to be about creating a moment, bringing an audience together, generating excitement, and making a release feel like an event.
Distribution seems to be about getting a film in front of people over time through festivals, streaming platforms, direct sales, community screenings, or other channels.
Am I thinking about this correctly?
For filmmakers who have released projects:
- Do you see premieres and distribution as separate challenges?
- Which one has been harder for you?
- Have you ever felt that your film had distribution options but lacked a strong launch or premiere?
- How do you approach each?
I'm interested in hearing real experiences and learning from filmmakers who have gone through the process.
Muhammad Muhammad You are thinking correctly. Except that festivals are not distribution, they are generally amateur events and used for early promotion or validation or just fun by filmmakers. Distribution may or may not be connected to your premier.
