Hello everyone,
I’m currently developing a new feature film — a psychological drama inspired by true events.
The story explores a young man’s gradual descent into a collapsing reality as buried childhood trauma resurfaces. It blends grounded realism with surreal, hallucinatory sequences to create an intense, atmospheric tone.
I’d love to hear insights from directors and filmmakers here:
— What elements make a psychological drama visually powerful?
— How do you approach portraying subjective reality or hallucinations on screen?
Looking forward to your thoughts and experiences. Thank you!

In my feature film the mirror scenes used flashing lights and a sound effect to signal alternate reality. Also used when the main male actor "saw" his female counterpart as someone else, often in unexpected places.

Thank you for sharing your experience — that’s a very creative and effective way to signal a shift in reality. I really like how you used light and sound, especially in the mirror scenes. In my project, I’m also working with subtle visual and audio cues to represent internal perception. Your insight is truly inspiring. Thanks again!
