Favorite and least favorite thing about being an actor

I love getting to play different roles, living lives I would never get to. Being on stage or set is such a high. My least favorite part is the uncertainty of not knowing when the next job is, sometimes the hustle is more exhausting than the actual job. What about you?

Jason Raymaker

The struggle is real for actors. What I have found is the more you put into it the more you get out of it. It also helps to have a flexible job to help keep food on the table and a roof over your head.

Joshua Young

That used to be a stress of mine, but I have a hack. At the start of every year, double-check with your agent that your headshots are still good enough. If they say yes, put that money toward shooting a short film that features you as the lead and plays to your strengths.

Hire a screenwriter who preferably has awards under their belt or a healthy IMDb page. Keep the locations limited so you can focus the budget on quality, because the more locations you have, the bigger the crew you’ll need. One inside location is best.

Then submit it to festivals. That way, no matter what’s happening in the audition world, you’re still going to film festivals, celebrating films you lead and meeting producers, directors, casting directors and other people who can help further your career.
