In 1906, a women called to testify, is torn between telling the truth to protect herself, or lie to protect her husband, who is charged with the murder of a man she claims raped her 5 years earlier.  

SYNOPSIS:

In 1906, New York, Broadway Star and Gibson Girl, Evelyn Nesbit is put on the Witness Stand to defend her hot-tempered, millionaire husband, Harry K. Thaw, charged with the murder of Stanford White, a man she testifies raped her five years earlier. The Newspapers sensationalize every detail of the trial as witnesses reveal intimate secrets that both she and Harry don't want anyone to know, especially each other. As the trial moves forward, she's torn between telling the truth to protect herself or lying to protect her husband. When Mary Thaw, Evelyn's mother-in-law testifies, revealing the true nature of Evelyn's relationship with Stanford White, Evelyn is forced to reveal the truth about what happened on the fateful night the rape supposedly occurred. Other witness's testify, revealing Harry to be a sexual deviant, and emotionally unstable, leading to a 'not guilty by reason of insanity' ruling and he is sentenced to an insane asylum. In the eyes of her adoring fans, Evelyn is seen as a liar, a Jezebel, and a gold digger, ultimately destroying her Broadway career.
