CHINESE NEW YEAR
By Erika Simonian

GENRE: Independent
LOGLINE:

A compassionate bartender and an alcoholic commodities trader are a friendship of circumstance; both of their worlds hang on by a thread but for different reasons—with money at the center.

SYNOPSIS:

George is an alcoholic commodities trader, and Dani is the tender-hearted bartender in an executive dining room. On her way in to work, she receives a call from her unemployed husband, who reports that their rent is going up. The stress is palpable as she resolves to work some extra shifts.

From where Dani stands, George has it all; he's a talented pianist who has also made it financially. But his crippling alcohol addiction, shown throughout the course of a day at the bar, illustrates that money is, by no means, everything. This particular day is the Lunar New Year, which involves a party atmosphere, and lots of bills being thrown across the bar throughout the lunch hour. It is also George's mother's birthday, and Dani watches and tries to counsel George as his addiction impedes his ability to even call her to wish her a happy birthday. And then an event occurs that sends Dani's financial stresses even further into a spiral.

Friendship, celebration, loss and addiction make for a confusing atmosphere, as Dani and George watch the sun go down together, later on that cold winter afternoon.

It would be much better if you replace the names with alcoholic salesman and compassionate bartender. Checking your other Loglines, I am sure you already know logline shouldn't include names as a rule of thumb :)
