TAILING TWO-LEGGEDS
By Eva Marosvari

GENRE: Thriller / Suspense, Drama
LOGLINE:

When a seven-year-old boy runs away with his baby sister, a reluctant psychic and a
skeptical detective race east following visions, dogs, and a truth neither of them wants to
face: saving a child’s life may not be enough if his spirit is already broken.

SYNOPSIS:

Tailing Two-leggeds

Rosa Whitehorse, a Native American Studies professor/police psychic assists on missing-person cases. She has positive results but is always too late. Her “gift” only leads to the dead. Police Captain Maggie Young trusts Rosa implicitly, while Detective John Carroll, Rosa’s reluctant partner, dismisses her as crazy. When Rosa experiences visions of domestic violence, and barking dogs only she can hear at the graveside of a murdered girl, she realizes the images are tied to John’s sister Hailey’s family. Rosa retreats to her reservation home to seek guidance. Her grandfather George Whitehorse reminds her that her gifts are to heal the spirit. An apparition appears and begs Rosa to assist in this new case, when she has no further desire to work with John.

Seven-year-old Jordan decides to run away with his baby stepsister Mysty if his stepmom Hailey leaves his alcoholic father Rick again. Jordan’s dog Squirt connects with him telepathically. Squirt introduces Jordan to a secret pack of dogs, Jack, Blacky, Camille, and Lefty, who reveal how they’ve helped “two-leggeds.” Though skeptical, Jordan is drawn into their strange story-telling world, especially by Blacky’s tale of uniting two lonely humans, Sam & Red. Jordan doesn’t buy any of it.

As Hailey prepares to leave for good, Jordan and Mysty disappear, stowing away in a travel trailer being towed east. An Amber Alert is issued. Rosa foresees a horrific wreck of the trailer jackknifing into a mountainside. She follows her intuition heading east with John in a race against time. While Blacky, Jack, and Squirt have hitched a ride with long-haul trucker Lightning Joe, distributing flyers of the missing kids along the interstate.

On the journey, while trying to understand spirituality herself, Rosa explains to John why a strong spirit is most vital to life on earth. He argues there is medication for her condition.

All paths converge in a small mountain town during a powerful thunderstorm. Rosa decides to stay in Ouray while John heads for Durango. Blacky too, stays in Ouray while Lightning Joe, Jack and Squirt continue east. In a spiritual awakening, the same apparition reveals to Rosa how broken spirits are like cancers that truly endanger life, that a healthy spirit is the lifeblood of god, and that dogs are guardians of mortal man, explaining she will understand “more and more.” Squirt races down the highway toward the wrecked trailer. John drives up on the wrecked trailer. Rosa races after Blacky through the storm around town. Rosa and Blacky find the children alive. Jordan meets Sam & Red. Jordan begins to heal, cuddling his bandaged dog, repeating the words his late mother once told him, “I love you more and more, more and more.”

In Boise, the dogs quietly fade back into myth. Reunions are emotional. John commits to his family, Rick promises sobriety. Rosa heads home until she spots Blacky walking on the highway. Smiling, she offers a ride. Together, they drive toward the rising sun.
