SYNOPSIS:

David Grabowski has always been miserable managing his overbearing father’s furniture store. At 6:06am, David & his wife are dreaming in bed when he is whacked across the face by their baby who is sleeping between them. They, like billions of others across the world, had the nightmare, ending with a flash of light in the sky. Everywhere David goes, he encounters others who panicking, including a frenzied neighbor who had the vision and a highway suicide jumper who did not have the dream.

David calls his flamboyant and successful brother Joey. David, obsessed with his work, is jealous of his lawyer brother. Joey, a womanizer and opportunitst, doesn’t remember having any dream. David begins to believe in this crisis when he learns that communication across parts of the globe has been lost.

David is flustered to see his unappreciative dad, Stanley, in his office, repeating his regular complaints about the company’s performance. Later, Joey shows up for lunch with David and also exchanges unpleasantries with their father. Their wonderful mother encourages David to discover his happiness.

David perks up when he receives two major furniture orders. Joey urges him to close the store and head to their old favorite bar. While many are freaking out, Joey disbelieves - he is buying drinks and having fun. David gets propositioned by an old girlfriend. Joey encourages him, but David declines. David is anxious to be home with his wife and daughter, realizing he doesn’t care about money, sex or crazy fun. When Joey hides his brother’s phone and refuses to take him anywhere, David chooses to find a way home. David’s old flame gives him a ride, but she knocks him out of the car after he rejects her advances again. David starts running home encountering thieves, wild animals, and a burning church. A car crashes through a police barrier right where he’s running. It’s Joey.

In each time zone, dramatic events are happening at 6:06pm. The Grabowski family is all together, some in prayer. David discovers his wife’s positive home pregnancy test, but is surprisingly delighted. He sees another chance to be the type of father he never had. His epiphany is that being a good father is the most important thing in the world and he finally appreciates that he’s had a wonderful life. David’s enlightenment inspires Stanley to confess his regrets and admit he had the dream too.

Joey, not involved in the family reconciliation, takes his bottle of booze and climbs onto the roof to be alone. When Joey is startled by a descending cloud, he falls off the roof, breaking his arm. Their mother succumbs to the pressure of the situation and has a heart attack. Even though the roads are closed due to martial law, Stanley prepares to rush his wife to the hospital. As the clock ticks to 6:06 pm, they back down the driveway… there is a flash of light… and the cataclysmic dream becomes an instant reality.

David and most of the Grabowski family rejoice with their ancestors and millions of others in heavenly peaceful, eternal happiness. Joey remains in a warped version of Earth. He wanders through total darkness and lies down in his desolate favorite bar. Back in heaven, David is overjoyed to reunite with his daughter, now grown-up, and is euphoric meeting his unborn son. But witnessing his mother’s sadness about Joey, he volunteers to switch places with him. Joey declines the offer accepting responsibility for all of his way, resulting in both brothers reunifying with the family.
