SYNOPSIS:
ROGUE is a high octane, action thriller feature about a female CIA assassin who becomes the target of her corrupt CIA superiors. She must enlist the help of her aging mentor, who pulls himself out of hiding to help her prevent a war. Sydney Shaw, the American covert agent, is supposed to be rescued by a military team in Mexico after completing her assignment. But instead, they’re given termination orders to kill her. Sydney must flee to her former mentor William Reilly’s cottage in Puerto Vallarta. When six Mexican Federal Police Officers show up for Sydney, she and William take them out and then must go on the run. Sydney is shocked to learn that she was set up by top CIA officials Gray and Clark. Her last assignment was to assassinate the Attorney General of Mexico, and now a civil war is brewing. Gray and Clark want Sydney gone in order to keep the hit from being traced back to them. But Sydney and William turn the hunters into the hunted as they seek to expose the corruption within the CIA while staying one step ahead of Gray and Clark’s team in order to survive.
Evaluation from the Black List website:
“The word for this script is “clean”: the story unfolds neatly, the characters grow smoothly, the conflict rises and falls excellently, and nearly every little piece is squared away into a very tight, very clean piece of writing. It’s a textbook script that checks all the boxes, and succeeds in telling a clear, engaging story. Action is written in crisp, energetic prose with frequent clever flourishes, such as William’s fight involving nothing more than an ink pen. The relationship between Sydney and William evolves naturally, beginning as cold and professional but soon breaking down enough barriers to become a true, close-knit partnership. Sydney is a strong protagonist with clear motivations and her energy often keeps the story moving at a brisk pace. William is a suitable foil, torn between internal conflicts, and the two characters have no shortage of drama between them to hash out. The script is a solid popcorn movie, a strong action-thriller that never loses its drive.”
