Grumpy Old Men meets Ocean’s 11
-- Two Seniors, confined to a high-tech retirement center, attempt a breakout so they can fulfill their Bucket List dream of going to the Super Bowl.
SYNOPSIS:
“The strength of the "Old Timers" concept shines through, providing an excellent framework to thrust our protagonist into challenging situations that foster personal growth.” Coverage from The Golden Script Competition
When 86-year-old Bernie accidentally sets his kitchen on fire, his daughter Susan decides to put him in an upscale, high-tech retirement home while repairs are being made. Bernie is reluctant, to say the least, as he struggles with the strict rules and watchful eye of Facility Manager Martha. His "bland" life inside the facility takes a surprising turn when Bernie finds out he's won tickets to the Super Bowl! (courtesy of his old friend Fred, who signed him up). But everyone is skeptical the tickets are real -- most believe it's a scam -- However, Bernie manages to recruit several seniors to help him escape the retirement home to attend the bucket-list event: his roommate, Arthur (a local troublemaker desperate for his granddaughter's attention), tech wizard Harold (a kind man with memory issues), and former soap actress Ruth Ann (who has a flare for the dramatic). Together the four friends set off on a "narrative that conveys a profound and heartfelt message within the backdrop of a seemingly absurd plot, which, surprisingly, maintains a captivating and realistic essence."
