A terminally ill writer, determined to leave behind more than memories, pens a series of letters to the man who will marry his wife after he dies, revealing a quiet, soul-altering story of love without ownership.
SYNOPSIS:
The first letter is read in silence. James, standing alone in a quiet room overlooking the sea, unfolds an aged paper with trembling hands. His to-be-wife Marianne is asleep in the next room, unaware that her late husband Elliot’s voice is about to fill the air again.
But these letters are not bitter or territorial or even melancholic. They are filled with grace. Wounded, raw and luminous grace. They speak of Marianne's laughter, her flaws, her private rituals. They speak of mistakes Elliot made and of the love he hopes will outlive him. The letters ask the future husband James not to replace him, but to love her as she deserves. Differently, fully and truthfully.
What begins as a belated confession becomes a spiritual passing of the baton. A love triangle with no war, only wonder. Through the letters, all three: past, present and future, must come to terms with what it means to love someone not as a possession, but as a responsibility.
The question that lingers then, is: Can you love someone more, by letting them go than by holding on?
