RECEPTION

RECEPTION
By Paul Hufker

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

COVID forces two twenty-something NYC actors who work at a reception desk to shake up their lives, as they are compelled to examine how “the other” is treated in public, private, economic, artistic, and educational spaces. This is "Empathetic TV."

SYNOPSIS:

A half-hour serio-comedy, Reception follows Pat and Erica, two 27 year-old struggling NYC actors whose day jobs revolve around the reception desk of a massage therapy school in Manhattan. After a humiliating run of auditions, they decide to make big changes. Pat goes from actor-to-playwright, while Erica starts a support group for actors with "non-traditional body types." Pat and Erica are forced to reckon with the students and teachers at the massage school, Erica's support group of disgruntled actors, the humiliations of show biz, and our current climate of social and cultural awakenings, as they search for belonging and connection in a COVID world.
