Panama City, Panama, 2053 AD. Social media has become the Extranet, a screaming 24/7 puppet show, a tool of the elite to control the masses. A young woman with mental abilities and an aging reporter struggle to reveal the truth and free the people from their mental chains.

SYNOPSIS:

2053 A.D. Panama is now the center of the world and perfectly reflects the global divide between those who have and those who don’t. The Extranet is a chaotic and addicting melding of all previous media forms that is broadcast everywhere, around the globe and around the clock. It is ROBIN FORSYTHE’s brainchild and the only thing the rich and poor have in common, Forsythe’s version of bread and circuses. AMALIA (AMY) HERRERA, a young woman with eyes like ice chips, grew up as a member of the Moles, the street gang that rules the streets of Panama. With her mental abilities, she has broken away and is now a free-lance industrial spy, stealing information and selling it to the highest bidder. When Amy learns that the boy she gave up for adoption years ago (but always watched over) has been killed by the moles, she decides there is nothing left for here, it’s time to get out of this place. She sets her sights on the Extranet’s latest app (an implant with the potential to control a person’s mind), her ticket to freedom.

Amy meets an aging reporter who could be a new source, a buyer, or both. He is BENJAMIN (BEN) FRANKLIN DAVIS. They agree to seek the app together, and he invites her to attend a charity gala with the newspaper’s owners, LAWRENCE and LOLA ASTER. At the event they are joined by and EDITH (EDIE) MOYNIHAN, Ben’s latest protégé, and Forsythe. During the meal Lawrence is murdered, causing Amy to panic and flee. Ben enlists Lola to help find the girl and take down Forsythe, who they believe is responsible. They separate, Ben and Edie to dig more into Forsythe and his tech company, and Lola to search for Amy. Meanwhile, Amy goes searching for Marco, the leader of the moles. She knows he’s connected to Forsythe, and she plans to sell what she knows for her ticket out. Instead, Amy is taken prisoner by the gang, raped, and tortured. Later, Lola frees her and shows Amy how to use her abilities to pay them back. Amy mentally creates a firestorm that incinerates all but a handful of the moles. Recovering in Lola’s penthouse apartment, Amy realizes that running away is no longer an option. Forsythe must be stopped.

Amy, Lola, Ben, and Edie discuss their options and decide to break into Forsythe’s headquarters and use his own equipment to broadcast the story over the Extranet. Once inside they split up. Amy and Ben go straight to the broadcast center, while Lola and Edie head for the control room. Once they are alone, Lola injects Edie with the implant and makes her a puppet. (Lola has been working with Forsythe all along.) In the final confrontation, Lola reveals herself as a broken soul full of pain and hatred. She kills Forsythe and uses the broadcast signal to cause riots all over the world. Amy and Edie are next, but at the last minute, Amy joins minds with Edie, and through the Extranet’s signal together they stop Lola, end the riots, and unite the minds of the world in a single moment of mutual peace.
